Following on from the previous Reflection, I saw two days ago the amazing efforts by a small team of Park Wardens in South Africa to save the endangered Black Rhino. These animals are being slaughtered in their hundreds each year for their horns which can then be sold at very high prices to the Far East. One saw here the clash of values, that of intense commitment to save animals from the very cruel methods used by the poacher for killing, and the extreme greed of their attackers. Thomas Aquinas when talking about life in all its forms, said, 'Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed into existence. Each of us is loved. Each of us is necessary.'
Poachers, Politicians, Military authorities might do well to reflect carefully on those words.
